A huge number of challenges the auto industry is facing and main of these are reducing pollution, a replacement for fossil fuel powered vehicles viable future.
Some of the scientists from Belgium have come up with a technique to remove these challenges. They have developed a device that uses light and a special catalyst to clean polluted air and the same time the device produces hydrogen which can be used to power hydrogen fuel cell vehicles. This device works on the principle so-called heterogeneous photocatalysis. Both processes take place in a device in what are being referred to as two individual rooms, then they are separated by a membrane to disengage them from each other.
In one section of the room air is purified by photoanode and on the other section hydrogen is generated (degradation process). The cathode is tucked behind the solid electrolyte membrane.
According to scientists the catalyst by which cells are produced in past they were used to hydrogen from water. Now they get to know that this process also works on polluted air and it’s efficient too.
The device can only measure few square centimeters and it’s hard to power fleets of vehicles or counterbalancing carbon emissions. This device will definitely help in so many ways because every latest development has to start somewhere though and this looks very supportive.
