Numerous companies affiliated with mining are rolling out to autonomous trucks, trains, and drills which will definitely boost the mining speed but also this causes the reduce of human employees. A well-known mining company Rio Tinto has 73 of these autonomous Titans by which iron ore is hauling 24 hours a day. Robotic Rock drills are fitted and a company is still working to upgrade its locomotives for more efficiency. The upgrade will allow the trains to drive themselves no need of the driver and everything will load plus unloaded automatically.
This is the bright and efficient future of mining operations and a time will come there will be less number of human miners. Every day is giving opportunities which are rising the capabilities and robotics cost is falling down which is really going to help mining companies to dig more efficiently. Tech robots will do all the work in dirt and danger while getting resources out of the depth.
A news is also confirmed that BHP Billiton which is world’s largest mining company is also working to deploy driver fewer trucks and ore mines, they are testing their driver fewer trucks on oil sands field.
The news from tech world is confirmed that they are working on robots that will be able to mine ores and very soon this going to happen. The driver fewer trucks are also on their way to roads to load and unload the resources on the destination they have assigned. These trucks will work by assigning the destination with the help of GPS and if any obstacle comes in their way they will notice it by their laser sensors and radar.
Rob Atkinson who hold the position as a lead productivity his reviews about autonomous trucks was pretty positive, he said that this driver fewer trucks have proved their efficiency and they are about 15 percent cheaper as compared to the human behind the wheel. He also said in future with the help of robots there will be less haulage cost and profit will be doubled. They are going to be in this path aggressively.
These driverless trucks work more efficiently and resources are unloaded on time because these doesn’t stop for any break or for a bathroom, and not for any shift changes so this is plus point for the company. The trucks are able to load and unload by their own self no labors required for it too and these trucks have also improved the safety.
The percentage of driverless trucks will be increased till next year as mentioned by the developers of the software which is installed in these trucks and with many efficient benefits. The reviews of companies which are using these autonomous trucks and trains said that software is also helping them in saving on their maintenance because the software is more predictable than any human can be. The software knows how to use brakes and all other controls. For digging, diggers and bulldozers are the next steps of software developers.
All the world’s largest mining companies have focused on the use of these tech robots that will help them to speed up the rate of resources and this will also improve the quality of ores that will come out of the ground. The companies have invested in these tech robots and this will definitely show the improvements in the performance of these robots, autonomous trucks and software will be more efficient in safety basis (improved sensors and radar will also be made).
The mining companies are ready to replace the human employees with the robots and they have invested in the software that helps to coordinate and monitor the equipment. Centralized control system software is also developed which monitors the equipment like it has given the job to oversee the autonomous trucks it will send the report about its arrival or departure from the one place to other departments, plans train movements.
These autonomous trucks, robotic technology, and software will help a lot to increase the production not only in the field of mining but in every other field, the bad thing is that this reduces the staffing levels. It’s a reality of this modern era and we have to manage it carefully. We will still remain a very compelling employer.
